TOM SKIPP

Tom Skipp, a British video artist and exhibition curator, lives in Madrid, Spain. He studied at the Arts Educational School in the Barbican, London, and at Warwick University. He curated the art exhibition "Tadeusz Kantor - The Theatre of Memory" at the Telefonica Foundation and Fundació La Caixa de Catalunya. In spring 2007, his first film "Krapp’s Last Tape" was displayed at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris as part of the “Beckett” exhibition. In November that same year he directed the “Interpret the Space” Video Workshop at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, Madrid, where he filmed the video, "Dogs". In 2008, he took part in numerous group exhibitions, including ones held at Edge Zones Gallery in Miami, and the Centro de Artes, León (Mexico). That same year he was awarded an “Ayuda a la creación” prize by the Matadero Madrid art centre for his “Stormwater” video installation. His first solo show was held at Demolden Video Project in Santander in 2009, and in 2010 his video “Something Old” was shown at the Festival d’Images Artistiques Video, in Nîmes and Catania, where it won a Palmares. Later in 2010 he worked on the Silk Road Suite, producing numerous videos filmed in Turkey and Syria. In 2011, he directed “The Tempest” by Shakespeare with the Spanish theatre group Caín Teatro and he curated the video show “A solas” at the Directors Lounge, in Berlin. In 2012 he wrote and directed a radio show called “Flow My Tears” for the radio channel El Estado Mental and he took part, as an artist and lecturer, in the symposium on 'Water Issues Relating to Environmental Landscape Sustainability’. In May 2013 a mini-retrospective of his films was shown at the Cinémathèque in Grenoble. In 2015 he filmed “Tadeusz Kantor in the Prado Museum” inside the museum as a tribute to the Polish artist on the Centenary of his birth, and he also organized the international symposium “Kantorbury, Kantorbury” at the University of Kent. In 2016 he made a video art work for the opera "Der Kaiser von Atlantis" which was premiered at the Teatro Real in Madrid in June 2016 (it will be shown in Seville and Valencia in 2017-18). He is co-director of "Voces en Off" a multimedia project which is held at Cruce de Arte Contemporáneo, in Madrid.
